Awarded the CEE Real Estate Quality Award 2007 for Residential Development, this luxury residential project by Asaf Gottesman and Gottesman Szmelcman Architecture is located close to the historic center of Krakow. Angel Plaza is typified by the contrast in its restrained street facade and the openness of garden facing aspects. Most of the apartments face south and enjoy views of the historic castle of Wawel. The project introduced a new residential typology to Krakow; a luxury inner city residence with underground parking, generous lobbies, health spa and expansive gardens. Like many other projects currently being developed in Eastern Europe, an economy of means is required; the use of simple materials and an awareness of construction costs is critical for the success of the development. It is a game of subtle counterpoints, of choosing where to invest in detailing and materiality and where to opt for restrain. Financially the project was a major success it managed to read the desire of an emerging market for a quality condominium that, nevertheless, is affordable.
