BARON IN THE TREES
Positioned upon the edge of a residential neighborhood and bordering an orchard of fruitless trees this atypical plot runs south of a major road, frequented by buses and heavy congestion. Asaf Gottesman and Gottesman Szmelcman Architecture's basic instinct was to isolate the plot, both physically and acoustically, to create barriers that would focus the house inwards and formulate boundaries. This is a sturdy home, comprised of solid concrete walls and clearly defined openings, often filtered by timber louvers. There is a certain rigidity in the mass that reflects the rather exposed position of the site. Our efforts here were focused upon detailing and proportion, upon prime spaces that accommodate family life and are generous enough to encourage contentment.
